Reasons you shouldn’t skim while reading.

The Iliad 07

I know I have complained like the dickens about the way the poet veers off into little notes about characters who are already dead, but there’s something about Euchenor’s little story that I can really appreciate.  The idea that this guy is able to choose the way in which he dies, and goes for the more honorable of the two just sits exactly right with me.  I’m not disappointed in him like I soon will be with Achilles because it took the death of his best friend to finally provoke him into fighting.  Euchenor’s more practical than that.  I mean, why waste an illness?
